About Sibyl Colefax & John Fowler

Founded in the 1930s, Sibyl Colefax & John Fowler is the longest established interior decorating firm in Great Britain, synonymous with the English country house aesthetic for nearly a century. Relaxed, inviting, deeply comfortable and entirely personal, their pioneering approach – effortlessly mixing old with new, luxurious with humble – is today interpreted by a team of six decorators, who are as practised at creating 21st century interiors as they are at working on historic buildings.

Commissions range from some of Britain’s most notable stately homes to modern city apartments, from ranches in America to ski chalets in Europe and tropical beach houses in the Caribbean. Boardrooms, restaurants, yachts and private jets add variety to the mix. Their exclusive client list includes royalty and celebrities, businessmen and women, bohemians, and many in between.

The six interior decorators, each with a support team, all work independently and have distinctive areas of expertise. They also have the great advantage of being able to exchange knowledge with one another to create visually compelling and tailored interiors.

About Spencer House

Ever since its creation for the First Lord and Lady Spencer between 1756 and 1766, Spencer House has been widely admired as one of the most beautiful houses in London, hosting lavish entertainments, welcoming artists, politicians and royalty through its doors and adorning its rooms with magnificent works of art.

In 1985, the lease of Spencer House was purchased by the J. Rothschild group of companies, headed by Jacob, 4th Lord Rothschild, who spearheaded an extensive restoration campaign that returned the house to its former splendour. Among the pieces now on display are several objects original to the house, alongside important loans from institutional art collections.
